NO POWER

On Wednesday at around 5:00 p.m. our power went out. This happens occasionally and caused no alarm until we went outside and noticed 3 fires spreading quickly over the mountains above our home. We found out later some power lines and a power station melted down and threw out sparks in four separate areas causing the several fires. We were told that our power could be out for up to and maybe over 24 hours. Some neighbors lost their water as well. We pulled out our flashlights and candles and spent the night watching the fire on the hill. At night we read by candlelight and were extremely happy to have the power back on in the morning. You forget how dependent you are to electricity until it is gone. It is just a habit to switch on the lights. I decided that I would need to be more prepared. I couldn't find my radio and luckily found a flashlight. You don't realize how quickly disaster could strike.

I totally agree with you! We had the experience to lose our power and water for about 3 days when they had the power grid failure in Michigan. It was an eye-opener! You can hardly do ANYTHING without water. It is a good idea to think through what you would do in an emergency. Our ward just gave us a list of questions to review to help you prepare for an emergency. Would you like me to send you a copy?

It is a scary thought - to think about disaster striking. But we have to face it if we want to be prepared! Thank you for the reminder!
